October 2, 2018 – Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corporation (MMPC) witnessed the turnover of two Outlander PHEVs (Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle) and two i-MiEVs (Pure Electric Vehicle) to the Office of the President (OP) and the Department of Science and Technology-Philippine Council for Industry, Energy, and Emerging Technology Research and Development (DOST-PCIEERD).
The ceremony took place at the Department of Energy (DOE) in Taguig City and were attended by Embassy of Japan Minister of Economic Affairs Mr. Makoto Iyori, DOE Assistant Secretary Leonido J. Pulido III, DOE Director and OIC for Energy Utilization Management Bureau Jesus T. Tamang, Office of the President Deputy Executive Secretary for Finance and Administration Ms. Rizalina N. Justol, DOST-PCIEERD representative Ms. Emelita AS. Dimapilis and MMPC President and CEO Mr. Mutsuhiro Oshikiri.
These vehicles were part of the agreement between Japan International Cooperation System (JICS) and Sojitz Corporation. It forms part of Japan’s Non-project Grant Aid for the introduction of Japanese Advanced Products and Its System (Next Generation Vehicle Package).
During his speech, DOE Assistant Secretary Leonido J. Pulido III mentioned that the donation is very timely and that these vehicles could be the future due to the increasing prices of crude oil in the country.
Commenting on the event, MMPC President and CEO Mr. Mutsuhiro Oshikiri said, “Our partnership with the Philippine Government provides a clear demonstration of how, we, at Mitsubishi Motors are working together with policy makers to come up with a roadmap towards quick adoption of these next-generation vehicles in the country.”
Under Japan’s Grant Aid program, four Mitsubishi Outlander PHEVs, four Mitsubishi i-MiEVs and three Quick EV Chargers were handed over to DOE and then distributed to its beneficiaries, OP and DOST-PCIEERD.
