Mitsubishi Motors Phils. Corp. (MMPC), a dynamic member of the Philippine Automotive Competitiveness Council, Inc. (PACCI) announces its participation in the 2nd PACCI Summit themed “Partners in-Action: Strengthening the Automotive Industry”. It encapsulates PACCI´s objective of building a strong and competitive local automotive support industry which is vital for the Philippines to cope up with neighboring ASEAN countries with similar auto manufacturing programs. Guest of honor for this summit will be his Excellency President Benigno Aquino III. Aside from the President, Department of Trade and Industry Secretary Gregory Domingo and USec. Crisanto Panlilio, Department of Trade and Commerce USec. Anneli Lontos, Mr. Ross Bray who is the Senior Trade Commissioner of Austrade Philippines, and Mr. Bennie Villegas and Dr. Cid Terosa of the University of the Asia & the Pacific were also invited as guest speakers. This summit will be attended by different sectors including Cabinet secretaries, local suppliers, government officials, Embassy Officials and some members of the academe. This one day event will be held on October 8, 2010 at the Dusit Thani Hotel, Makati City.

In its partnership with PACCI, MMPC has been an active advocate on the use of locally manufactured parts in the production of its vehicles. In fact, it has more than 70 suppliers of local parts. Aside from this, MMPC has been aggressively working on the parts localization of its vehicles. Among the locally manufactured vehicles are the Adventure, L300, Fuso Canter and Lancer EX. The Mitsubishi Adventure which has been selling very well since its introduction in 1998 is now 65‰ made up of local parts. Annual purchases of local content amounts to an estimate of Php 4.7 billion including parts installed on Completely Built Units. Headlining, meter combination, radiator hose, shroud assembly, tank assembly condenser, engine assembly, panel roof, door assembly, radiator assembly, weather strip, wheel disc aluminum, disc brake, drum brake, and chassis assembly are some of the local parts that MMPC has been using to its locally manufactured vehicles. These local parts have been proven to be of competitive and world-class quality.

Suppliers of local parts are in continuous development and improvement of their products. In fact, incessant efforts of improving and enhancing local parts have made MMPC more confident to use locally manufactured parts and to support local manufacturers. Seemingly the quality of locally produced parts is now at par with those produced from other countries.

With the support of entities like MMPC, organizations such as PACCI and with government´s viable programs, local suppliers will be able to further develop their products making it more globally competitive. In return, this will create significant economic impact: growth translated into income and creation of more jobs alleviating the current unemployment rate of the country. MMPC believes that through supporting the local parts suppliers it can boost the automotive industry and likewise actively help in the creation of jobs to many Filipino workers.

MMPC expects that the success of the 2nd PACCI Summit will facilitate in strengthening not only the automotive support industry but entire automotive industry as well.
